Since Judge Elwood Rich's retirement in 1980, he has been serving in the private sector as a Mediator, Arbitrator and Private Judge. Judge Elwood Rich also remains active as a Settlement Officer for the Riverside Superior Court, where he has resolved thousands of disputes.

  • (1984-Present) Judge Elwood Rich is a sole practitioner in arbitration and mediation, under contract with the Riverside Superior Court in Riverside to mediate (hold settlement conferences) on all civil cases, trial length of which are estimated to be over one day. Judge Elwood Rich has mediated to a settlement 69% of the cases for the Superior Court. He has arbitrated and mediated thousands of cases of all types.
